Payag ba Kayong Ibalik ang NIA to MIA (Manila Int'l Airport?
This was according to her post online, which stated that the administration, together with the Congress, should name the airport back to its original name, the Manila International Airport or MIA.
On 1987, when Former Senator Benigno Simeon "Ninoy" Aquino was killed on its grounds during his arrival from the United States, the airport changed its name in honor of his death to signify the sacrifice he had done for the Philippine democracy.
However, the #BringBackMia group said that it is still too early to give Ninoy such an honor because of three malfeasances he had allegedly done, namely:
1. Authoring the fake account of the so-called "Jabidah massacre" in 1967 and sabotaging the Philippines' claim to the territory.
2. Being complicit in the re-establishment of the local communist party and guerilla army under Maoist control in 1968-1969.
3. Being inexplicably absent during the bombing of the LP rally in Plaza Miranda in 1971 despite him being the most popular and frontrunner candidate and the secretary general of the Liberal Party.
They also said that the name NAIA is only confusing and does not lead to the recognition and identity of the country it represents. They are also pushing to change the Ninoy Aquino Sports Stadium back to its original name, Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
As of writing, the petition that the group has started already reached 3,000 supporters. Vivian is also asking the netizens to sign the petition on Change.org.
There are those who supported it but there were also people opposed to the idea because they believe that those behind #BringBackMia are the ones belonging in the Marcos Loyalists, who have already pushed the same petition years ago.
