The Independent explains, “The humorous clips show Abu Sin and the young woman from California chatting from their homes, battling language differences between English and Arabic and jokingly declaring their love for one another.”
Here are Abu and Christina in one of their video chats:
One of the video clips shows Sin wearing a traditional headdress while serenading Christina and doing a fake proposal. The two internet celebrities were declaring they love each other jokingly. The hilarious chat sessions were first streamed live on YouNow. But the videos were later uploaded on YouTube and became viral with over hundred thousand views.
However, Abu and Christina’s online videos were used as evidence to justify the former’s arrest.
Sin Sin was arrested while driving with two friends. That moment he was also chatting with a Kuwaiti and his arrest was captured on a live stream on YouNow.
In the video, police are seen pulling up behind Abu’s car. Abu stepped out of the car and walked towards them. He was then followed by his two friends. Later on, one of Abu’s friends went back to the car and told the Kuwaiti chatmate that Abu was being arrested.
Some commenters said that Abu was arrested because he was chatting while driving but according to Colonel Fawaz Al-Mayman, he was arrested for “unethical behavior.”
“His videos received many comments and many of the commenters from the Arab world demanded for him to be punished for his actions,” Al-Mayman told the Saudi Gazette.
Meanwhile here’s what Christina said about the issue.
A lawyer from Saudi explained that Abu and Christina’s videos violated Sharia Law and the country’s internet regulations. Abu is facing up to three years in prison.
