A member of the Manila police's bomb squad was hurt in a second explosion in Quiapo, Manila on Saturday night.
The second explosion took place at past 8:30 p.m., right after National Capital Region Police Officer chief Director Oscar Albayalde briefed members of the media about the first explosion, which killed two persons and injured four others.
Just last Friday, April 28, a bomb exploded near the Quiapo Church, injuring about 14 people. The explosion was caused by a homemade pipe bomb that was allegedly thrown by 2 men on a motorcycle.
The Director of the NCRPO, Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde, said, “Wala po tayong nakukuhang threat or any clear o present danger with regards to any terror act na related po dito sa ginaganap na ASEAN Summit dito sa atin,” Albayalde added that the initial report states that it occurred as a result of a gang war in the area.
Are the two bombing incidents linked? Was it really because of a gang war in the area? Was it done in retaliation to the first bombing? Could it be an act of terrorism?
Unfortunately, details are scarce. The authorities have yet to provide any additional information as investigations on the bombings are still ongoing.
